Poker nights are a lot of fun. Everyone comes over, and we all stay up so late, chatting, eating, and of course, playing poker. I’ve only played once or twice since I’ve been here, but it’s going to become a regular thing now that everyone is pretty much getting the hang of it. Sometimes, it’s just the adults if babysitters can be found, other times, it’s whoever isn’t able to play the round! It’s always so much fun and the kids get a kick out of seeing each other after a long week of school!

We all signed up for the Color Fun Fest 5k at Turner Field here in Atlanta. The day was beautiful, but the race didn’t start until 7 pm. We went to an early dinner of delicious pho and then headed over to the field. On the way there, thunder erupted, followed by the biggest downpour we’ve ever seen. Our spirits were still high, attempting to keep the kids still amped for the 5k…but the rain literally beat down on us. We arrived to the very empty parking lot, gathered up the courage and energy to run out into the rain and throw color everywhere as if we had finished the whole 5K!

I really think we would have ran the whole race instead of just the first part if it wasn’t getting so cold and we didn’t want the kids to get sick. Nonetheless, everyone was in good spirits jumping in puddles and getting soaked in the rain!

Happy Birthday to one of the best girls I know. I’ve known Tamara for over 10 years, and now that I’m in Atlanta close by her, we get to hang out all the time. Her husband threw a great poker party with her closest friends and we all had the best time learning / playing poker. We have to do this more often even when there are no birthdays! The pictures are a hot mess and combination of everyone grabbing my camera throughout the night, but I did manage to snap some fun pics since Amine brought over the rope lights to hang out on the balcony while we smoked some arguileh.

Michelle had a lovely bridal shower at her auntie’s beautiful home in Tustin. I was a part of the shower as a guest, so I didn’t take very many photos. However, the few I did take, I’m loving the colors and vibrancy.

If you didn’t get the title, you didn’t read Alice in Wonderland as a child. Sarah, with the help of her wonderful sisters Tamara and Dana, threw a wonderful little unbirthday party for her daughter Yara, who just turned 3. The theme was, of course, Alice’s Wonderland, and they went all out. The details are super impressive, from the Mad Hatter tea party centerpieces to the Queen of Hearts biscuits. I had a great time just hanging out with the kids, socializing with old friends, all whist photographing at leisure. The kids are amazing, but it took me awhile to get a good birthday girl pic of Yara. She finally looked straight at me, smiled, and said, “Yara GO!” .. and i pulled the trigger just in time.

Leanne of Sargeant Creative wanted to experiment with some double exposure photography on her new Fujix100s. When she called me to spend the day with her, I jumped on the chance to learn about this project she was working on for the Violet Hour’s Art Show. She shot everything on manual settings, and these are straight out of the camera frames, no photoshop at all.   I learned all kinds of fun tricks and I can’t wait to experiment with this feature on the Canon 5d Mark iii as well!

I’ve known Sarah since we were 13 years old. Amazing how we’ve all grown into beautiful women, making our own families, and producing the next generation! Sarah is keeping the sex of her baby unknown until she gives birth…or until she can’t hold it in any longer and spills the beans! Her beautiful friends Leah [whom I’ve also known since I was 13 years old], Amy, Leigh, and Suzette threw her a wonderful baby shower at this cute estate in Orange. I loved photographing the whole event, and at the end, the chickens were let out of their roost to run around too!

One of my childhood besties was born on Cinco de Mayo. This year, we went all out of the cinco de mayo theme, from the sombreros, to the tacos, to the gigantic Tecate pinata.
